Catalogue Note

This pair of chenets, with its distinctive baluster composition surmounted by a flaming urn and canonball, is very closely related to a pair of chenets commissioned, circa 1770, by the Duchesse d'Enville for her salon in Château de la Roche-Guyon and attributed to Jean-Antoine Dambrière (sold Sotheby's, Monaco, 6th December 1987, lot 105).
A very similar model to the present one and the one made for the Duchesse d'Enville is conserved in Versailles (inv. V4478). One of the chenets there is signed 'Dambrire ce 25 novembre 1775'. Jean-Antoine Dambrière was born in 1754 as the son of the contrôleur de la Maison du Roi Antoine Dambrière.
