hinged covers engraved with a cypher below a coronet, the undersides stamped HUNT & ROSKELL LATE STORR & MORTIMER 6041

Condition

Catalogue Note

A similar pair of jugs, John S. Hunt, London, 1845, together with coasters were sold from the collection of the Most Hon. Marquess of Zetland, Sotheby's, 27 March, 1969, lot 165. A further related pair applied with cyphers and Ducal coronets were Sotheby's, 28 April 1988, lot 615 for £17,500.

Mortimer & Hunt and their successors Hunt & Roskell had many European customers and are known to have exported extensively to Russia at this period. The coronet on this lot is for a Continental noble family.
