Description

  • Ebony, brass enamel
  • 236cm. 7ft. 9in. high
the elaborate dial signed Charost A Paris, with day of the month arc enclosing an annual calendar ring engraved with the signs of the Zodiac, the time dial with finely pierced gilt hands, centre seconds, engraved trellis work centre and aperture for moonphase with lunar date register and day of the week, the chapter ring enclosed by a hand-set equation ring, the similarly signed bell striking movement with shaped plates, deadbeat escapement and numbered uncut countwheel, the waisted case surmounted by a reclining figure of Chronos, the front with inlaid gilt stringing, glazed pendulum aperture and applied with ormolu mounts,

Condition

Dial in good condition, tip of hour hand clipped. Movement is complete and retains the original wheelwork throughout but is much in need of a clean. Case in generally good condition with a few minor old cracks to the veneers and some minor lifting to the stringing on the base. With pendulum, two brass-cased weights and winder but no case key.
