Description

  • Ebony, brass, enamel
  • 202cm. 6ft. 7½in. high
12-inch thirteen-piece enamel dial signed Le Faucheur A Paris, with apertures for day, date, month and moon phase, the similarly signed movement with dead beat escapement,  numbered outside count wheel, spring barrel for the strike and weight for the going train, the waisted case inlaid with cut brass and mounted throughout with crisply cast ormolu mounts depicting a winged hourglass, shells, dolphins and dragons, an enamel plaque below the dial similarly signed

Condition

Dial has old restoration by the winding hole, seconds hand replaced. Movement complete but much in need of a clean, pendulum suspension broken. The case in generally good condition throughout. With pendulum, weight, counter weight, winder and 2 case keys.

Catalogue Note

Alexander Le Faucheur became master in 1729 and was appointed 'Horloger du Roi' in 1746. He is recorded at Pont au Change in 1748 and at Quai de l'horloge between 1772 and 1780.
