Catalogue Note
This clock derives from a drawing by the bronzier Jean-André Reiche, and commemorates the birth of the duc de Bordeaux in 1820. He was the son of Charles Ferdinand, Duc de Berry and Princess Caroline Ferdinande Louise (1798-1870). The duc de Bordeaux, who was better known as Henri, Comte de Chambord, was born some seven months after his father was stabbed and mortally wounded in Paris. He is portrayed being nursed by his mother, his sister Louise kneels at her mother's side.
An identical clock is illustrated, P. Kjellberg, Encyclopédie de la pendule Française, Paris, 1997, p. 429, fig. F.
