Catalogue Note
The name of Louis-Jacques Vaillant is generally associated with this model. Vaillant in 1787 was named a "maitre horloger". In 1789 he established himself in the Rue du Four-Sainte Honoré, a decade later in Rue de Tixanderie.
A comparable ormolu example was sold Sotheby's London, 10 April, 2006, lot 37.
An identical model is illustrated P. Kjellberg, Encyclopedie de la Pendule Francaise, Paris, 1997, p. 447, fig. F.
