Catalogue Note

A very similar pair of cups and saucers is illustrated by Linda H. Roth and Clare Le Corbeiller, French Eighteenth-Century Porcelain at the Wadsworth Atheneum, The J. Pierpont Morgan Collection, p. 247, cat. no. 128, where the authors comment that some bird panels were rendered from George-Louis Leclerc, comte de Buffon's Histoire naturelle des oiseaux, published in Paris between 1770 and 1786.
