Catalogue Note

The design of the triangular spreading base is very close to the base of a lamp in ormolu and porcelain made in the St. Petersburg porcelain factory and the bronze factory of K. Tegelstein, in the State Hermitage, St. Petersburg.  One of a set of four, it was possibly designed by A. Stackenschneider through the Nichols and Plincke English shop in 1843-1844.  The set was presented to Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna for Christmas 1844 for the Mariinsky Palace.
