Catalogue Note

A set of 12 chairs, almost identical, was delivered to the Prince de Poix (probably Philippe Louis de Noailles [1752-1819]) for Versailles and was sold Sotheby's Paris, 6 April, 2011, lot 191.  The Prince de Pois, as governor of the château of Versailles, enjoyed an appartement in the Palace.  This Versailles delivery was subcontracted among a number of menuisier, including J. Louis, A. Gailliard, Menant and Jacob-Desmalter.
