slightly tapering octagonal form, capped scroll handle, the high domed cover pierced with scrolls, circles and stylized flowerheads, baluster finial, base engraved with contemporary block initials G/SA

Provenance

The engraved initials G/SA likely belong to members of the Gardner family.  A circa 1745 cann, by Hurd, in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, is engraved with matching initials in addition to the Gardner coat of arms.
