Catalogue Note
The slender scrolling arms, paw feet, and hourglass stems are very much in Tiffany's house style at this period. The style probably originated with Charles Grosjean, as on his Chrysanthemum candelabra or those for the Vanderbilt family (John Loring, Magnificent Tiffany Silver, p. 141-142), but these candelabra, designed two years after his death in 1888, show how much the aesthetic had been fully embraced by Tiffany. It was also to be seen on the "George III Centerpiece" shown at the Columbian Exposition, of which a period photograph was reproduced in Tiffany at the World's Columbian Exposition, Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, 2006, pp. 29, 125.
