Condition
Overall in very good original condition. As seen in the catalogue illustration, the leather portion of the chairs have acquired a beautiful patina with age. The leather seats are stable and firm, with a few minor surface scratches and abrasions, none of which break the surface of the leather. There is a single scratch measuring approximately 2 ½ inches in length to the proper right side of the backrest, visible in the catalogue illustration. The backrest of this chair is not a cushion, but rather comprised of a suspended leather panel. The reverse of the back panel is the unfinished leather. The top edge of the leather panel of the backrest is slightly folded over, which creates a slightly irregular line across the top, also visible in the catalogue illustration. The seat with a few minor areas of circular discoloration, likely caused by water and is minor in appearance. The wrought iron frame of the chair with a few light surface scratches consistent with age and use. This chair and the following lot were designed for the Moreno family, and are listed on a receipt from the firm allowing for the precision in dating the chairs. A superb design by Frank, and executed sensitively, with great attention to the leather and detailing from the early years of Frank’s collaboration with Comte.
