Condition

Overall in very good original condition. The coloration of the painted portion of the body is in excellent condition and some remnants of the ivory staining have been retained. The facial staining to the ivory possibly enhanced in the lip area. There are some very tight hairline cracks to the ivory of the legs and one slight crack to the torso of the figure, which are both visible in the catalogue illustration. The proper left arm of the figure is also slightly loose. It appears that the flame portion of her torches may have been restored lightly, as there is evidence of glue visible on each there they are attached to the ivory handles. These two torches are removable from the sculpture, which is inherent in the design, and best removed when moving the figure. There is a small apparent original hole to the underside of the bodies figure in the shorts portion of her costume. It is to the underside and not readily apparent when viewed righted. However, this does not appear to be lacking any elements. The base is in very good condition with a couple of shallow scratches and felt adhered to the underside. A very good example of this dramatic and iconic form within the oeuvre of Preiss. With beautiful detailing to the painted portion of the flames and costume. Due to the fragile nature of this sculpture, special handling and/or packing may be required during the shipping process.
