Condition
With some age and construction cracks. Scattered abrasions and dents to carving. Scattered old worm damage. Minor restoration to joint of back rest. Feet partially retipped. In good condition.

The overall design and carved elements on the present lot can be compared with an armchair in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, illustrated, Bill G.B. Pallot, L'art du siège au XVIII siècle en France, Paris, 1987, p. 112. Another similar model is illustrated, Jarry & Devinoy, Le Siège Français, 1973, fig. 45. Comparable chairs which have appeared on the international art market include one sold, Sotheby's, Monaco, June 18, 1989, lot 845, and a pair, formerly in the collection of Lady Baillie, Leeds Castle, sold, Sotheby's, New York, November 6, 1982, lot 191.
