shaped oval, the rim decorated with large and small shells surrounded by acanthus, matching handles and feet, the latter capped by grapevine, the center engraved with contemporary arms surrounded by flat-chased rococo ornament

The arms are those of Pellew for Edward Pellew (1757-1833), Baron Exmouth of Canonteign, Viscount Exmouth K.C.B., G.C.B., who commanded and was wounded at the bombardment of Algiers in 1816.  He also recieved numerous orders from other countries including Knight Grand Cross of Charles III of Spain, of St. Ferdinand and Merit of Naples, of Wilhelm of the Netherlands, of Sts. Maurice and Lazare of Savoy and Knight of the Annunciation also of Savoy.
