12-inch twenty-five piece enamel cartouche dial signed in the centre Ch.es. Voisin A Paris, the movement with five knopped pillars, altered anchor escapement with steel suspension, numbered outside count wheel striking on a bell, signed on the backplate Charles Voisin A Paris, the waisted case surmounted by a seated classical female above foliate mounts and scroll feet, veneered in brown shell and inlaid with foliate scrolls and flowers; with a conforming bracket

Dial in generally good condition, minor chips around winding holes and hair crack between both holes, old repair to V, good original hands. Movement is complete and looks as though it would run but may benefit from a clean, escapement and suspension altered. Case in generally good condition with some old minor repairs and lifting to inay, three loose strips of brass but we have them. Bracket as the case with one loose piece of brass but we have it. With sunburst pendulum, winder and case key.

Charles Voisin was born in Paris in 1685 and became a master clockmaker in 1710. He worked first at the Rue de Sevres and after 1713 at the Rue Dauphine. He married twice and fathered nine children, two of whom became master clockmakers. In 1760, when an old man, he ceded his business to his second son Antoine-Henry. He died in Paris in February 1761.
