Description

  • wool tapestry (flat) weave
  • Approximately 447 by 442cm; 14ft. 8in., 14ft. 6in.

Condition

This is a flat weave carpet. There is a large rewoven section from where there was a cut-out - rectangular section, probably for a fire-place, evident in the central section along one edge, as different colour which extends from edge through to the inner border. There are also other sections of the outer guard which are reweaves (see for example the brighter orange to the outer edge) and to the inner border (see bottom right corner of catalogue image). This carpet has scattered restorations and reweaves throughout. They are present in the green ground, and the border section, and are of different colouration. They are visible on close inspection of the on-line image, and as lines through the left side border, and to the right hand corner. Good design and size.
