Catalogue Note
This interesting 'hall stool' of saddle form relates to an example sold, with provenance from the Earls of Jersey, in a Furniture sale, Sotheby's London, 10 September 2007, Lot 294. The stool offered in 2007 probably came from Osterley Park, just outside London, the great mansion re-modelled by Robert Adam and whose influence is seen in its fluid neo-classical design. A group of furniture at Osterley was known to have been supplied by Linnell.
