Provenance

Almost definitely purchased by Victor Cavendish, 9th Duke of Devonshire (1868-1938) for the The Green Drawing at Devonshire House, Piccadilly, the famous London residence of the Dukes of Devonshire.

Literature

Devonshire House Inventory, 1917, in The Green Drawing Room, described as originally containing a copy of the Encyclopedia Britannica.

Condition

The bookcase is in country house ocondition. The top is scratched and marked. The second tier is warped and cracked. One column support is cracked. It could benefit from a light repolish. Minor losses.
