- Mahogany, cane and beech
in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster, with caned seats
Provenance
Syston Hall, Lincolnshire.
Condition
In country house condition. Four small rectangular apertures to accommodate drop in seats on the seats. Evidence of worm. Of back splat and cresting rail discoloured and of a faded appearence. Old marks and scuffs to seats. Carving well executed and good quality. Cushions in distressed condition.

Syston Hall, Lincolnshire was a house designed by the architect Lewis Vuliamy in 1822-4 in a Grecian style. These chairs are illustrated in a watercolour by T. Kearman depicting the library, an engraving of which is illustrated in Peter Thornton, Authentic Decor, The Domestic Interior 1620-1920, London,1985, p.237.
