the caddies, bowl and covers richly chased and matted with curved panels of flowering foliage, also engraved with a coat-of-arms, demi Oriental figure finials, the red velvet-lined case on four claw and ball supports and with silver lock plate and swing handle

Hallmarks and condition are generally good and the chasing of the caddies and bowl is very crisp; one of the caddy lids is struck shut; the other caddy has a split in the solder between body and foot; the bowl is a little sunken just above the foot, as is the centre of the lid; the case is generally good although has probably been restored at some time, and the top part of the silver lock plate is detached (three pins missing) and the hinge to its flap is damaged. Note that the maker's mark on the case mounts (lock plate and hinged finial) is also Samuel Taylor; the feet are unmarked.
