Description

pierced sides, openwork swing handle, the centre later engraved with a coat-of-arms

Condition

One small split to pierced decoration on body and evidence of a couple old minor repairs, good hallmarks on the outside of the body and the underside of the handle, the handle has possibly had an erasure to the central cartouche which is blank, the coat-of-arms and cast decoration have minor wear but are generally in very good condition; unusually large size and weight; impressive and rare. Catalogue Note

The arms are those of Ernest Augustus, Duke of Cumberland (1771-1851) as borne between 1801 and 1837. He succeeded to the throne of Hanover upon the death of his brother William IV in 1837.
