Description
Phlox, Cobæa and Fritilliary plates with printed crowned Louis-Philippe monogram mark in blue and Sèvres 1838, the first two also inscribed in red Langle for the painter Pierre Jean Victor Amable Langle; the third inscribed in black E huard for the painter Pierre Huard; Geranium plate with printed mark dated 1839 and inscribed in red J des Js for Joséphine des Isnards and dated 25 8re 1839, Erica plate also with 1839 mark and inscribed in black E Charles for Mme. Charles (née Huard), Anemone and Sweet Pea plate with printed mark dated 1840 and inscribed in red J des Js 10 mai 1840, all also with incised marks

the fond agate border gilded with a fine trellis design, the cavettos painted with large botanical sprays, their inscribed names on the reverse: Phlox (Var); Fritillaire damier and Lachenale pendante; Anémone à fleurs simples and Gesse odorante, (Vulg: pois de senteur); Geranium ardens and violaceum; Erica cérinthoides and Erica Ventricosa; and Cobæa scandens
Condition
These plates appear to be in very good condition. There are a few extemely fine scratches to the gilded rims visible on close examination. Erica plate has an extremely fine scratch to the enamels running for about a centimetre diagonally down through the orange heather spray on the right.

Catalogue Note
These magnificent plates were originally part of a service ordered by King Louis Philippe for Narcisse-Achille, Comte de Salvandy, 1795-1856, Ministre de l'Instruction Publique 1837-39 and 1845-48, Ambassador to Madrid 1841, and Turin 1843. The majority of this service was sold by Christies, 30th June 1986, lot 222. Sixty of the original one hundred plates were sold at this time.
