Description

  • Blue ground custard cup with underglaze blue square mark

  • Custard cup and cover with green decoration 8.5cm high, blue ground one 7.8cm high, cup and saucer, saucer diam. 12cm
decorated in the workshop of James Giles, one custard cup of bell-shape with mixed flower sprays in green, the other with a scale blue ground reserved with mixed flower sprays, the teacup and saucer with a gilded ram and trailing flower sprays in puce

Condition

The custard cup and cover with green decoration has a few very minor chips to the tips of the flower petals on the flower knop of the cover only. The blue ground custard cup and cover has similar minor chipping to the flower knop. The gilded line around the rim of the custard cup has some wear. The cup has a shallow chip (possibly a firing flaw) to the inner footrim. It also has a shallow chip to the rim of the cup, approx. 3 mm. wide. The saucer has a long shallow chip on the inner side of the footrim, approximately 10mm long
