bell-shaped, finely painted in puce with a Chinese figure and a dog walking in a garden, the scene framed at the lower edge by rococo scrolls, a large flower spray by the handle,

Condition

No visible damage. There is some light fire specking to the handle, just below the handle and around the footrim.

Catalogue Note

It is very rare to find a puce monochrome Chinese subject on a bell-shaped mug.  For a very similar mug see H. Rissik Marshall, 1954, plate 6, no. 91.  A similar mug with classical ruins in puce was in the Paul Crane Collection, sold by Bonhams, 31st March 2010, lot 182
