Condition

Overall good condition; re-gilt; the glass appears to have age and with some crystallization to the bottom of the plate and with a soft, uneven bevel; however the glass does not appear to be original; some small chips and losses to gilding; gesso appears to be mostly original.

Catalogue Note

The present mirror relates directly to the designs for Mirror Frames by William Jones in The Gentleman or Builder's Companion, 1739.  The broken pediment centered by a cartouche with a coat of arms is identical to pl. 49, the carved frieze flanked by volutes derives from the design in pl. 46 and the hounded corners correspond to pl. 47.
