Description

  • porcelain
of baluster form, painted in various shades of cobalt-blue depicting a tranquil landscape by the riverbank with fisherman, houses and pagodas and distant mountains falling behind, the shoulder encircled with elaborate floral lappets separated by pairs of cash coins suspending tassels, the domed cover similarly decorated and surmounted by a knob, attached to the vase with a later hinged metal mount

Condition

The vase has a circa 0.2 x 0.2cm bump and short vertical black scratches around the shoulder, there are other glaze firing imperfections including iron spots, burst glaze bubbles and surface scratchings across the surface. The cover has a kiln grit measuring 1 x 0.2cm on the wide everted rim, the glaze is bubbly thus blurring the underglaze blue decoration. The vase and cover are mounted with metal where the points and border of attachment have become discoloured yellow with verdigris deposits.
