Description

  • blanc-de-chine porcelain
standing on a rocky plinth, dressed in long flowing robes billowing in the wind and open at the chest to reveal an elaborate beaded necklace from which a lotus pendant hangs, her hands probably holding the scroll of wisdom which is now missing, her face serene and her hair piled high in a chignon held with a ruyi pin, applied overall with a milky-white glaze

Condition

The Guanyin has hands held out, possibly supporting a scroll of wisdom which is now lost; part of her right hand is restored with associated areas of repainting, her third fingertip is chipped, the index fingertip on her left hand is missing leaving her ring exposed. The voluminous drapery folds to her left arm has a 0.5 x 0.2cm chip, there is a 1.5 x 0.4cm area which flaked off the bottom of her right sleeve. A circa 1cm firing crack is visible running across the shawl which hangs over her neck and another 0.5cm crack near her bare foot on the rock plinth.
