Description

  • porcelain painted with overglaze enamels and gilt
the body of rectangular form, the top half pierced with bamboo leaf designs framed by stylised floral scrolls, the bottom half with identical designs but moulded in relief, divided by a central protruding platform decorated with a peony flower at each corner on a cash diaper ground, raised on four short cabriole legs each decorated with a ruyi head, the truncated pyramidal cover similarly decorated and surmounted by a waisted rectangular finial painted with a single prunus flower head

Condition

This censer and cover is in general good condition with the exception of a 0.7 x 0.3cm and a 0.5 x 0.3cm chip to the edges of the central platform, and a 0.5 x 0.2cm chip to the edge of the stepped cover. There is overall rubbing to the gilt and painted surface, and other glaze firing imperfections including iron spots and burst glaze bubbles.
