Description

  • porcelain
of squared section, the angular shoulders tapering to a slightly concave base, surmounted by a waisted neck, enamelled with shaped panels enclosing mythical beasts, birds perched on prunus blossom, water birds in a lotus pond, and butterflies hovering above flowers issuing from pierced rockwork, all reserved on a dotted ground with interspersed flower heads and butterflies, the angled shoulders similarly painted with shaped panels of lotus blooms and four ruyi heads framing the corners, the neck with two panels enclosing floral blossom, all set against a dotted ground with two sinuous chilong and flower heads above a band of swirls

Condition

The vase has overpainting to the edges on the shoulder and sides probably covering fritting, overpainting to hairline cracks which run from one bottom corner along the bottom edge of one side, diagonallly up a third of one side to an edge and back down to the foot on the other side, minor glaze firing imperfections such as burst glaze bubbles etc., and light glaze scratches.
