Catalogue Note

The elegant stepped form of the present dish is unusual and no other related example appears to have been published. For a related Yongzheng mark and period example, but the deep well lacking the subtle ridge, see one sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 20th May 1987, lot 494. The form of the present dish appears to have derived from a fifteenth century prototype; compare a white glazed brushwasher carved with lotus from the Edward T. Chow collection sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 25th November 1980, lot 48.
