Description

  • gilt-bronze
the body rising from a splayed foot to swelling shoulders surmounted by a tall trumpet neck, applied with three animal masks alternating with mythical beasts above large bosses, skirted with a band of inverted lappets around the shoulder, the neck applied with two chilong handles above two pronounced concentric ribs, decorated around the exterior with large gilt splashes on a dark chocolate patina, the base inscribed with an apocryphal four-character Xuande mark within a recessed rectangle

Condition

The vase is in fair condition with loss to the incised wings of one of the chilong handles, a casting flaw/crack near the base, other tiny nicks/original casting flaws, and extensive surface scratching and rubbing to the patination.
