Description

  • gilt-bronze
the compressed globular body rising from three short conical feet, flanked at the flaring rim by a pair of sloping loop handles, the base cast with an apocryphal four-character mark of Xuande in archaic script within a recessed rectangle, the stand cast in the form of a round lotus leaf resting on three lappet feet, the metal of a golden russet tone with irregular gold splashes

Condition

The censer has a circa 3.5 x 1 cm recessed area near one of the tripod feet as a result of application of pressure, several small nicks to the rim near where the loop handles are attached, and overall surface scratching and rubbing to the patina. There are two old pen inscriptions to the base of the censer reading 'N 65/ 2108240' and 'Y with stand' and another reading 'Stand for Z. 783' to the base of the stand.
