Description

finely potted with gently flaring sides rising from a recessed base, delicately painted around the exterior in wucai enamels with a cockerel and hen watching over their small chicks, divided by branches of blossoming peony issuing from rockwork, all between double underglaze blue lines at the rim and the foot, the base with an apocryphal six-character Chenghua mark within a double square
Condition
The chicken cup has hairline star cracks branching to four points (the longest branch measuring 4cm) on the base, a 0.2 x 0.2cm bump (raised) on the body and a burst glaze bubble at the rim of the cup. Apart from other minor glaze firing imperfections such as further burst glaze bubbles and iron spots, the cup is otherwise in good condition.
