Description

the deep rounded sides rising from a short footring to a slightly flared rim, painted to the exterior with a procession of eight foreigners carrying various precious objects behind a cart pulled by a camel outside the city walls, all below a chevron band, the interior with a sinuous dragon in pursuit of a flaming pearl amidst stylised cloud wisps, encircled at the rim with a band of linked cash coins each enclosing a wan symbol, inscribed to the base with a four-character seal mark reading qing ya gu wan (antique of pure elegance) within a double square, wooden box

Condition

The bowl has a 0.2 x 0.2cm buff-coloured burst glaze bubble and extensive surface scratches within the central medallion. There are a 0.7 x 0.5cm uneven discoloured blemish (possibly caused by impurity in the body oxidised at the edges) and a 0.3cm firing crack in the well. The rim has a burst glaze bubble, there are further burst glaze bubbles and iron spots in the well. The exterior has a circa 0.5cm firing crack on the wheel of the cart pulled by the camel. Minor surface scratches and other glaze firing imperfections such as burst glaze bubbles and iron spots are also visible across the surface.
