Description
- jade
all well-hollowed with wood stands, one carved on one side with two long-tailed birds amidst peony blossoms issuing from pierced rocks and the reverse with two similar long-tailed birds among narcissus, the stone of apple green and celadon tones; another carved on one side with peony sprays stemming from pierced rocks and the other side with narcissus blossoms on rockwork, the stone of apple green and celadon tones with darker emerald splashes; the third carved freely to the exterior with playful children catching butterflies on one side and kicking shuttlecocks on the other, framed by ferny trees and jagged rockwork, the milky-white stone with emerald-green inclusions, creating the 'pine trees in the snow' effect
Condition
The rounded snuff bottle with amethyst stopper is in excellent condition with the exception of a 1cm x 0.2cm natural loss and another tiny chip attached to a natural 1.2cm vein with associated flakes on the stopper.
The jadeite stopper of the ovoid snuff bottle is possibly made from a different stone from the body as there is some slight colour variation, generally of good condition with natural veining running horizontally across the stopper.
The flattened rectangular snuff bottle of general good condition but a natural vein with associated flakes running across from the lower body to the base, the underside of the amethyst stopper with three 5mm loss radiating from the centre.
The stones are of slightly warmer tones compared to the catalogue illustration.
