Description

  • porcelain
the rounded shoulders rising from a slightly recessed base to a short neck with a rolled lip, painted in cobalt-blue tones with separate floral sprays borne on leafy branches, the shoulder with a band of lotus pendent lappets, skirted around the base with overlapping plantain leaves, the neck inscribed with a six character Jiajing mark, all reserved on a later enamelled overglaze yellow ground

Condition

The yellow enamel of the jar is perhaps a later addition, areas of enamel flake is evident especially around the neck and shoulder of the jar (ranging from circa 0.3 x 0.2cm to 2 x 1cm in size). A lower section just 2cm above the base seems to have been detached from the upper section of the jar, it has now been repaired, leaving a crack with associated flakes running horizontally along the base. There are two cracks (one circa 3cm and the other circa 13cm) running along the neck and the sides of the jar which go across the wall of the vase into the interior, and another crack (6cm) running horizontally along the interior of the jar near the neck.
