Description
- cinnabar lacquer
with lobed sides, carved with nandina berries and a leafy chrysanthemum spray framed by two interlocking panels of ruyi-shaped scrolls, surmounted by a flaming pearl similarly framed by linked scrolls, all reserved on diaper ground
Condition
There is a 10cm area of restoration to the left edge of the plaque and a 4cm area to the top centre edge and another 4cm area to the rim to right of this. There is minor losses and nibbling including the tips of the leaves and petals of the chrysanthemum and nandina berries (the largest measuring circa 0.3 x 0.2cm), the bottom tendril of the flames issuing from the pearl in the centre (0.6 x 0.3cm), edges of the ruyi scrolls (largest measuring 0.7 x 0.2cm), and around the corners and edges of the plaque. There is a 0.7 x 0.3cm nick to the top edge of the plaque and a circa 5cm crack which runs from the top sides into the diaper band and other minor cracks (circa 2cm) running along the sides. There is also some repainting to the flowers and the flaming pearl.
