Description

  • gilt-bronze cloisonne enamel
of baluster form rising from a spreading foot to a tall waisted neck with a galleried rim, decorated in bright cloisonné enamels with a band of wavy strapwork beneath a keyfret band at the shoulder, the neck and foot enamelled with plantain leaves and floral sprays

Condition

The vase has a 1.3 x 1cm area of depression with associated enamel loss and another two areas of enamel loss (circa 1 x 1cm) on the wavy strapwork, there are also other areas of loss (such as a 1 x 1cm loss to one of the flower petals near the base of the vase) with deposit of dirt and pinprick holes across the surface of the vase. The gilt-bronze lip and feet shows extensive surface scratches and wear to the gilding.
