its head turned back to its left to bite its left hind hoof which is partially covered by the curling tail, its limbs tucked beneath its body which is incised with a striated mane, the green stone flecked with black and white inclusions and veining

Christie's London, 7th December 1970, lot 113.

Condition

The horse is in good condition with the exception of minor nibbling to the extremities of the carving, natural veining of the stone with associated flakes noticeably to the base measuring circa 7cm and another running diagonnally across the back of the horse measuring circa 18cm, and cacification of the stone in places such as the base and along the spine of the animal. The stone of a brighter tone than the catalogue illustration.
