Description

the rectangular seats inset with a panel of woven cane, the curved splat carved in low relief with a stylised bat holding from its mouth a chord suspending a musical stone and a tassel, the upright arched back continuing to form the back legs, the curved arms running downward to form the front legs, the apron carved with a key-fret pattern

Condition

Both armchairs are in good condition. One has minor cracks particularly along the points where the arms are attached to the framework and seat, including two cracks (one circa 15cm and the other 7cm) at the back of the seat. The supports at the mid point of the arms on each side has very minor nicks to the top. There is slight wear to the caned seat. Overall there is very minor nicks to the wood and seams with which the panels are attached are visible. The other chair shows similar minor nicks to the wood and wear to the caned seat. Minor linear cracks are visible, such as two circa 49cm cracks running from one handle to another at the front and the back border of the seat. There are minor 2cm scratches to the side panels suspending from the seat. One corner of the seat has a triangular nick (1 x 0.5cm) to where the arms are attached to the seat with associated cracks.
