each seated on a rocky plinth, dressed in a full armour tied at the chest and belted at the waist, the ferocious face with high cheeks, bulging eyes and a long beard below a beribboned high cap, glazed in green, blue, aubergine, purple and yellow

Condition

The Guandi holding an ingot is heavily restored at the extremities including the hands, the ends of his shawl and ribbon on his hat with associated overpaint and overspray. The other Guandi has short hairlines (max 0.3cm) running through his right hand fingers. There is a crack running along his right arm. The middle sections of the main and side beards are restored with traces of glue around the seams. Sections of the helmet tassel and the robe are lost in clean breaks. There are minor glaze wear and small glaze chips along the edges (max. 0.5 x 0.2cm). Other minor glaze firing imperfections include burst glaze bubbles, iron spots and short firing cracks.
