brightly enamelled, the king wearing a yellow tunic decorated with stylised shou characters draped over the shoulder with an iron-red sash, his face with a cheerful expression under a full bottomed curling wig, hands outstretched with one holding a wide-brimmed hat and another a scroll, his mistress wearing a veil above her long curly hair with a loose yellow coat decorated with leafy floral scrolls in black
Condition
Both figures are in good overall condition with the exception of the following minor areas of restoration: the figure of Madame de Maintenon has old restoration to the thumb on the left hand, to a break at the elbow of the left arm and to the right hand; the figure of Louis XIV has loss and old restoration to his left hand and the baton, to a break at the elbow of the left arm, to a break at the right wrist and to the right hand thumb and to where it adjoins the hat, and to the far left side of the hat.
