each moulded standing on a kidney-shaped plinth with weight rested on one leg, the right hand raised above the shoulders possibly once holding a crescent blade (guandao), dressed in a full armour beneath a loose robe tied at the waist, the face with dense uplifted eyebrows, moustache and beard framing his bulging eyes and flaring nostrils, all below a warrior helmet, glazed in green, aubergine, yellow and blue

Condition

One Guandi had his right arm, extremities to his helmet and decoration on his chest restored with visible overpainting flaking at places. The finial on his helmet is broken and restuck, with the re-joint seams still visible. The other Guandi with his right hand broken and restored, traces of overpainting remain. There is also visible overpainting to his left arm and the back of the figure. A circa 0.7 x 0.3cm area to the ribbon at his belly and part of the ornament at his chest are loss and restored with overpainting. Other minor chips and restoration to the extremities of his helmet. Glaze firing imperfections include raised bumps (max. 0.4 x 0.4cm), short firing cracks, burst glaze bubbles and iron spots etc.
