of octagonal section, rising from a domed base to a trimmed neck, decorated to each face with a panel enclosing insects or birds hovering amongst floral branches including hydrangea, peony, prunus and magnolia, bordered by leafy scrolls bearing stylised flowerheads, the neck and the domed cover similarly decorated, fitted with gilt-bronze stand, rim and knop

Condition

Both brightly painted jars have been drilled through the base for attachement of a metal mount, both have been cut-down at the neck, one jar has extensive glaze crazing and glaze lines in particular around the luting line, one jar ha s 2cm., vertical body firing line, both covers have been reduced at the rims, the original knops removed and drilled for attachement to a metal mount, both jars and covers have minor glaze imperfections including iton-spots, burst glaze bubbles and minor glaze scratches.
