the cylindrical body finely enamelled with a continuous narrative scene depicting a group of generals and their attendants, some bearing flags and banners in a landscape with mountainous peaks and a lake in the background, all before a crowd of officers, identified only by the tips of their spears, halberds, banners and canopies emerging from behind rockwork in the foreground, the neck enamelled with four shaped cartouches enclosing florets, against a diaper ground, the cylindrical neck with bamboo and rockwork, with a cloud-scroll border to the wide mouth rim
Condition
There is a circa 22cm hairline crack running vertically down the side of the vase and two circa 7-10cm diagonal faint hairlines/scratches at the bottom near the trees. The base has a 2cm scratch. There are other minor surface scratchings and glaze firing imperfections such as burst glaze bubbles and iron spots (predominantly to the lower half of the vase).
