the ovoid body surmounted by a tapering neck with a ribbed rim, painted to the exterior with four large fish swimming amidst algae and water weed, encircled at the neck with upright flame-like lappets and the shoulder with a diaper band, all within underglaze-blue line borders, the domed and knopped cover painted with radiating ruyi cloud scrolls
Condition
The jar with a consolidated body crack cutting vertically across the red fish, measuring approximately 90mm; one shallow glaze chip to the rim measuring approximately 5mm by 3mm. Some flaking to enamels, particularly to two of the fish. Firing imperfections including burst air bubbles, glaze inclusions and iron spots. Some surface scratching and general surface wear. The cover with a large area of restoration to the rim, measuring approximately 20cm along the edge of the rim and extending a maximum of approximately 35mm up into the domed cover; glaze chips and flakes and to the tip and sides of finial; enamel flakes elsewhere to cover.
