each with rounded sides rising from a slightly tapered foot to a flaring gilt rim, the exterior painted with an elegantly dressed lady seated and playing a qin at a desk with various scholar's objects, all flanked by a long biography of Lin Daiyu, the heroine in Dream of the Red Chamber, and a further shorter inscription within a wood panel, the interior and the base covered in a crackled turquoise glaze save for the iron-red Daoguang seal mark in a white square
Condition
The pair of bowls are in good condition with the exception of some crazing and tiny flakes to the turquoise interior on one bowl, rubbing to the gilding on the rims of both and light glaze scratches.
