the deep rounded sides rising from a slightly tapered foot to a flaring gilt rim, decorated in bright enamels on the exterior with four gilt-edged medallions enclosing scenes from the love story of Niu Lang (the Cowherd) and Zhinu (Maiden of Weaving), divided by colourful billowing clouds, all reserved on a pale blue ground incised with feathery scrolls, the interior painted in underglaze-blue with a scene of the reunion of the couple on the bridge of magpies over the Milky Way within a double circle, the well with further magpies interspersed between billowing clouds, inscribed with a six-character Jiaqing seal mark at the base
Condition
Two triangular areas (measuring circa 3.5 x 3.5cm each) has been broken and re-stuck to the bowl with associated restoration around the seams, there are at least three associated hairlines each measuring approx. 1-1.5cm. There is another circa 3cm hairline to the interior and a 1cm scratch to the rim. Other glaze firing imperfections include burst glaze bubbles and iron spots.
