each with the ovoid body rising from a flaring foot to a tall wasited trumpet neck and a galleried gilt rim, flanked by a pair of archaistic phoenix handles, painted with shaped panels enclosing scenes of the Battle at Xuzhou from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, where Guan Yu risked to save Liu Bei's wives from Cao Cao's troops at Baling qiao (Baling Bridge), all reserved on a ground of angular scrolls dispersed with flowering and fruiting sprays, the foot skirted with a keyfret band, wood plinths

Condition

One vase in good condition, with minor firing imperfections and wear. The second vase with an area of approximately 3/4 of the rim broken into at least 7 pieces and re-stuck, with extensive over-painting clearly visible to both interior and exterior. 1 handle broken off and re-stuck. Minor firing imperfections and wear.
